| | | About Kathy | It all started in 1983. After having worked in the health care field as an assistant to a noted Phoenix area Optometrist, I was first introduced to Chiropractic in a very round about way. My brother, in the x-ray business, worked with a chiropractor opening a brand new office, and looking for an assistant to work with his insurance department. Back in those “Mercedes Eighties” the job of insurance CA really consisted of throwing HCFA forms up in the air and checks came down! Pretty easy! I took the job and was to be trained by the existing insurance CA, who was off to have a baby in about a month, and would not be returning to her post. As luck would have it, after training for only one week, this CA had her baby, and I was on my own! The chiropractor was legendary Phoenix area chiropractor, Dr. John Connors, of Natural Life Centers. Never could I have asked for a better indoctrination to the profession than learning at his feet. More importantly, he taught me how chiropractic could save my life. Due to severe asthma, I had to take a handful of pills every night just to keep breathing. After only a few months of treatment, my health was restored thanks to innate intelligence and my body being able to heal itself, free of interference. He conducted a very high volume and on purpose chiropractic office and between him, his wife Sandy, and me, we ran that place with over 250 visits a day. With that kind of volume, you can imagine that it was tough to get any kind of help in learning how to do insurance billing. So, I had to learn for myself, by hook or by crook. That was the best way to learn. For that, for my health, and for the love of chiropractic instilled in me by Dr. Connors, I’ll be forever grateful.
So, I’ve been chiropractic professional now for over two decades. I guess we can say that I’ve” been there and done that”. I’m proud to say that my experience ranges from managing the day-to-day operations of multiple practices to serving the entire profession as Assistant Director for Insurance for the American Chiropractic Association. I believe that helps me bring a unique perspective to working with practices throughout the country.
Between 1983 and 1999, I had the opportunity to build and manage multiple high-volume chiropractic and multidisciplinary practices and was responsible for all aspects of their operation. During this time I lived and worked in Phoenix and then moved to New York State. Between 1994 and 1999, I served as Director of Income and practice administrator for the largest chiropractic group practice in New York State, and successfully oversaw the practices’ conversion to multiple, successful, high-volume multidisciplinary practices.
In 1993, I had an amazing opportunity afforded to me by Dr. Arlen Fuhr, founder of Activator Methods. He asked that I develop and teach his nationwide chiropractic assistant course. I spent the next two years traveling the country and teaching this course during the weekly Activator Methods seminars. It was a time of my life that was very hectic, effectively working two jobs with few to no days off and just having adopted our son, Jared. But having the chance to hone my speaking skills and interact with doctors all over the country helped me know that my purpose in this profession was to teach doctors and their teams how to be the most efficient, to serve the most patients, and bring the most chiropractic to the public.
| After moving to Washington, DC for my husband’s job change, in 1999 I had the privilege of serving the entire profession on the national level with the ACA. I was the ACA’s primary staff contact for coding, Medicare, staffing and practice management development issues. During this time, I represented the ACA around the country teaching coding seminars and being involved as the staff support to the coding, insurance, and Medicare committees. This allowed me first hand knowledge of the processes that are undertaken on behalf of the doctors in the field. This was invaluable knowledge for me to master from the ground up. | After another family job change brought me to Denver, I had another opportunity that changed the course of my career again. From 2001 through 2006, I was a Senior Coach with Breakthrough Coaching, having worked directly with more than 100 practices throughout the country. The vision and purpose of Breakthrough Coaching allowed me to bring nuts-and-bolts, ethical, and visionary practice building information to my clients. I had the opportunity to speak to literally thousands of doctors and practices over that six year period. It was perhaps the single most significant 6 years of my career. Dr. Mark Sanna is a visionary and chiropractic statesman that I will forever count as a mentor. | Beginning in 2006, I began working as the National Insurance Advisor for Foot Levelers, serving their customers across the country and helping them to solve insurance, coding and financial challenges relating to working with stabilizers and the ancillary services they use in practice. This continues to give me a unique perspective to keep abreast of what’s going on throughout the country. I also currently serve as consultant to the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors in working with the Chiropractic Assistant membership and training program for the state. I love this opportunity to stay connected to the day to day goings on within the walls of your practices.
| In 2007, I decided it was time for a change. After working these last 23 years for a variety of different professionals, I knew it was time to bring my own personal brand of expertise to the profession and deliver it in my own way. This experience brings me to a very special place now that allows me to recreate and shift how I serve the chiropractic profession. One of my favorite Dan Fogelberg songs helps me keep my eye on the ball of my purpose in bringing practice building business skills to doctors: | The higher you climb, the more that you see, The more that you see, the less that you know, The less that you know, the more that you yearn The more that you yearn, the higher you climb
| To me, the beautiful mountains here represent striving, reaching, growing, yearning, excelling, steadfast values and rock-hard principles. These are a part of my vision for me and for my clients. I love serving this profession and the amazing doctors and team members within it. |
